Jack Hobbs: Has had interest from Wigan

Speaking on Saturday, Bruce had suggested there could be twists to come in the defender's future, despite the 25-year-old centre-back currently on a season-long loan with Nottingham Forest.

Bruce told Radio Humberside: "We have had a firm enquiry from Wigan concerning Hobbs - that's on the agenda.

"There's one or two others sniffing around, I've had one or two phone calls regarding Jack. We'll obviously see what he wants to do and see what happens in the next few weeks with that."

The Tigers boss can recall Hobbs in an emergency should he have a spate of injuries but the Premier League club could bring him back anyway following an approach from Wigan.

Bruce would prefer to get money for Hobbs by selling him now, which could force Davies into bidding for a player he thought he was going to get for free in a few months' time.

However, the Reds claim they have agreed a pre-contract to sign Hobbs permanently when he becomes a free agent this summer.

Forest boss Billy Davies, speaking after his club's 5-0 win over West Ham in the FA Cup on Sunday, was adamant Hobbs was not leaving the City Ground to join Uwe Rosler's side or anyone else.

Asked if Hobbs might have played his last game for Forest, he replied: "Not a chance.

"There is a (recall) clause which is for an emergency. As far as we're concerned that hasn't changed. He's still our player.

"We're looking forward to having him here for the rest of the season if that's possible.

"The player doesn't want to leave this club and that's important."

I

may well get slated by other United fans for this, but out of the three contenders, I'd far prefer Liverpool to win the title. Yes some elements of their fanbase can be a bit OTT, yes they're our biggest rivals and yes it will make our poor season feel even more like the end of an era (Fergie's gone, Liverpool are back on top). However I just have to applaud Brendan Rodgers and the way he's turned Liverpool around in just a couple of seasons. It...

ooray! We are all excited now, we beat a very mediocre team! With all due respect to WHU supporters, not winning that game shouldn't even be a consideration. This is the problem, there is no winning mentality at the Emirates - we're all congratulating ourselves beating a team that we have a winning record against.

I

s this meant to be an aspiration for United supporters? Moyes mediocrity strikes again. I see the Bayern boys don't want to sign for him, and his reputation amongst the senior European coaches make other key signings unlikely.
