Emerson Boyce: Wigan captain wants reaction

Boyce feels that Wigan took their eye off the ball at the Keepmoat Stadium, after Uwe Rosler enjoyed a seven-match unbeaten run in the league, which has led many to tip them for a late play-off challenge.

Defender Boyce hopes the result will have not have an adverse effect on the team, and that the players will bounce back when they continue their defence of the FA Cup when they take on Crystal Palace for a place in the last 16 on Saturday.

"Doncaster was one of those games where we never really got going," Boyce told the Wigan Evening Post.

"A lot of people may disagree with me here, but I believe it may turn out to be a good thing for us to have a little setback.

"We've played a lot of the top teams in recent weeks - like Derby, Reading and Burnley - and we've done really well.

"Maybe we took our eyes off the ball at Doncaster, and hopefully it will act as a kick up the backside for us and get us back on track.

"Since the manager came in everything has been going pretty well, this is the first real setback we've had.

"It's up to the players now to pick ourselves up now and go again, and hopefully there are plenty of good times ahead of us this season."

may well get slated by other United fans for this, but out of the three contenders, I'd far prefer Liverpool to win the title. Yes some elements of their fanbase can be a bit OTT, yes they're our biggest rivals and yes it will make our poor season feel even more like the end of an era (Fergie's gone, Liverpool are back on top). However I just have to applaud Brendan Rodgers and the way he's turned Liverpool around in just a couple of seasons. It...

ooray! We are all excited now, we beat a very mediocre team! With all due respect to WHU supporters, not winning that game shouldn't even be a consideration. This is the problem, there is no winning mentality at the Emirates - we're all congratulating ourselves beating a team that we have a winning record against.

I

s this meant to be an aspiration for United supporters? Moyes mediocrity strikes again. I see the Bayern boys don't want to sign for him, and his reputation amongst the senior European coaches make other key signings unlikely.
