Shaun Maloney: Could play again this season

The Scotland international last featured on September 14 and has yet to appear under Uwe Rosler, who has led Latics into the Sky Bet Championship play-off places with an impressive run of recent results.

While Maloney has been forced to adopt a watching brief during Rosler's time at the helm, he is hoping he can still make an impact this season with the possibility of Wigan's season being extended if they finish between third and sixth.

"My big motivation is to be able to be a part of what's going to be a big end to the season," Maloney, who is back in Wigan after rehabilitating in America, told the club's official website.

"That's the reason I've spent so much time out in the USA, if I hadn't gone over there it's more than likely that I wouldn't have made the end of the season.

"The way things have gone I definitely feel like I've got a chance.

"There are hurdles to overcome for me, joining the group and being up to speed is one of those and the first one on my list."

Both Maloney and Rosler have been cautious when targeting a particular comeback date and the former wants to see how his body copes with the rigours of full training first.

The Scot added: "I don't know a specific date that I'll be back because that all depends on how my body reacts to different types of training, but I hope to be back with the lads soon or at least for some days during the week.

"Everything has gone well so far, but I'd love to get back training with the team sometime this month; that would be a massive boost for me."

still can't see the Phil Jones thing that some people go on about. Whenever I watch him play it's a repeat of headless chicken meets a gurning Bambi on ice for 90 minutes.

P

robably the first list I've come across in a long time where I agree with a large majority of what was written. Can't agree with everything though, Zaba has had an awful season by his standards, I'd put Monreal (a player who I've never rated) up there, gotta give credit where it's due, he's really stepped up his game.
