The 23-year-old was offered a new deal to stay at Wigan following the expiry of his contract, but has chosen to head north.

Redmond, who progressed through the Latics academy, made only four first-team appearances for the club, but featured on 15 occasions for Carlisle last season during a loan spell.

Wigan signed both midfielders James McArthur and James McCarthy from Hamilton in the summer of 2010 and 2013 respectively.

Hamilton secured their place in the Scottish top flight following their two-legged play-off final victory against Hibernian last month.
