It was the south London club's first win in seven, with the Addicks scoring twice in the last 20 minutes having slipped 2-3 behind midway through the second half.

Daniel Pudil fired the Hornets ahead on 11 before Tommie Hoban put through his own net to level matters in the 34th minute.

Charlton went ahead three minutes later through Yann Kermorgant before the hosts equalised from the spot via Almen Abdi.

Alex Geijo restored Watford's lead while Kermorgant (71) and Johnnie Jackson (78) sealed the points for the visitors.

And Powell said: "We had a tough December - three draws, three losses - after having a very good November.

"So it's a real positive result for us and a good way for us to kick off the New Year.

"It was a sensational game. Both teams played their part in what was a great game for everyone watching but I felt on the balance overall we just about deserved it.

"But they had some good chances, my keeper made a couple of good blocks, but overall we had 10 chances to their five and it was good we took four of them."

e have the personnel. The trick is keeping them fit. Carrick and Blind have missed large chunks of the season, while the defence has been one muddled mess of intermittent stooges, all coming and going at various intervals thus far. We may be just short of title winning quality, but we're half way through. An injury crisis to either of the top two could change things. Optimistic, yes, but not unrealistic.

arish is the man to blame for this shambles. Pulis must be chuckling into his left over turkey sandwich. I pray this doesn't mean the Neil Warnock media machine will kick in now and he'll be back on the telly box.

e almost found a new way to lose, just when I thought it was getting boring Giroud does that. Although Arsenal are deservedly called 'soft' the entire midfield is out injured. Still must admit MU are managing to win despite a similar raft of absentees. Think the Gunners have good players but poorly coached.
