Ben Hamer: Unhappy with Charlton's pitch this season

The Addicks, promoted to the second tier last season as League One champions, have won just four of their 15 games at The Valley this term.

Hamer believes the surface is partly to blame for their disappointing results on home soil.

He told the Daily Star: "Our pitch this season has been absolutely awful.

''We've not been able to play our free-flowing football game and the state of the pitch has been a big part of that.

"I am confident in our ability but I do not feel confident of the pitch.

''You do not know what it is going to do, because it is boggy one week and then hard and bobbly the next.

"I know it is easy to say that is just an excuse for not being good at home - but the state of the pitch is a really major factor."
