Two arrested over tweets

Two men have been arrested on suspicion of inciting racial hatred following comments made on Twitter after the Tottenham Hotspur v West Ham match on 6 October.

Last Updated: 13/12/13 at 11:26 Post Comment

Haringey CID launched an investigation after they were made aware of the tweets, which were of an anti-Semitic nature and made reference to Hitler and the gas chambers.

A 24-year-old man was arrested at his home address in Croydon on Thursday, 12 December on suspicion of inciting racial hatred and was taken into custody at a south London police station

A 22-year-old man was arrested on the same day at his home address in Wiltshire on suspicion of inciting racial hatred and was taken into custody at a local police station.

Previously, as part of the same investigation, on 5 December a 48-year-old man was arrested at his home address in Canning Town by Haringey officers on suspicion of inciting racial hatred, and was taken into custody at a north London police station.

All three men have now been bailed to a date in late January pending further enquiries.

In a separate investigation that also dealt with anti-Semitic tweets relating to the same match, a 55-year-old man from Hemel Hempstead was arrested and cautioned on 28 November for malicious communications.
