Modibo Maiga: West Ham man enjoying the scoring feeling once more

The Malian scored three goals in his first seven games for Sam Allardyce's side after joining from Sochaux last season.

But the 26-year-old then went on a year-long run of 19 league and cup matches without a goal for the Hammers, which finally ended on December 18th in the 2-1 Capital One Cup quarter-final defeat of Spurs.

Maiga then scored in the 3-3 Premier League home draw against West Brom on Saturday and he is looking for more goals, starting in the derby clash at fellow strugglers Fulham on New Year's Day.

He told the Daily Express: "It had never happened to me before. I was asking myself a lot of questions. It is like that. I was questioning myself as to why I was not playing to my level.

No excuses

"But I have no excuses - I know I have had lots of chances to score. I was probably lacking in confidence.

"I didn't understand why but it is not related to anything else. I know I am capable of playing well here.

"I wasn't stressed by it. I was working hard, I am a hard worker and I carry on working hard - it is the only way to get there. It is all I do - work, work, work."

He added: "I am quite relieved. I hope it is going to be just the start for me.

"But the supporters have backed me very well. When I hear them sing my name, it is a great feeling.

"So on one side, you know luck is not with you but the supporters can see that you are working for the team."
