Sam Allardyce: Focuses on safety

Doubts have surrounded the futures of Matt Taylor, George McCartney, Joe Cole, Jack Collison and Jussi Jaaskelainen, whose contracts are set to expire at the end of the season.

Despite the uncertainty, Allardyce believes it is more important to focus on Premier League survival in the short-term.

"Contracts won't be talked about until we are safe - I haven't made any decisions yet," he said in the Daily Star.

The Hammers have won four of their last five league games, moving them out of the relegation zone and into the top half of the table.

Captain Kevin Nolan bagged five goals during those games, and Allardyce has lauded the importance of his skipper.

"I just hope he keeps it up and strives to do even better," the Irons boss said.

"That is something I talk to the squad about all the time. They can't ease off and they've always got to hit the top performance."

t's why Mourinho is so successful. He gives players a specific, limited set of functions to perform. They are but a cog in a machine. Do no more, do no less. I assume he learnt it from LvG :)

really hope that someone in the mainstream media spots that the Bayern manager played for and managed Barcelona quite well, and thinks to mention it in the build up. That would be really interesting.
