Nathan Jones: Says everyone is playing for their places at Brighton

The Seagulls travel to Leeds United for their opening game in just 11 days time and with only two more pre-season games to come, competition is hotting up.

Welshman Jones, who is the new assistant head coach to Oscar Garcia believes players should try and grab the attention of the Spaniard in the remaining friendlies.

"It is a competitive time at the minute where everyone is competing and training hard," admitted Jones.

"There is no set team that is going to start. Everyone is playing for their places.

"That is the thing about pre-season. We want to see people come back with real hunger, with desire, good workrate, they understand what they have to do and show it in games.

"Then the manager will sit down and pick the side he thinks can get a result in the games coming up."

Jones admits that Brighton are hoping to add further depth to their ranks before the new season starts.

He added: Jones said: "We are looking to strengthen the squad. The thing is it is a good squad and any additions have to be good because we don't just add bodies, we add people that actually improve the squad.

"There is definitely progress. The manager has identified ones he wants and it is about trying to get those."

However I just have to applaud Brendan Rodgers and the way he's turned Liverpool around in just a couple of seasons. It...

ooray! We are all excited now, we beat a very mediocre team! With all due respect to WHU supporters, not winning that game shouldn't even be a consideration. This is the problem, there is no winning mentality at the Emirates - we're all congratulating ourselves beating a team that we have a winning record against.

I

s this meant to be an aspiration for United supporters? Moyes mediocrity strikes again. I see the Bayern boys don't want to sign for him, and his reputation amongst the senior European coaches make other key signings unlikely.
