Adam Johnson: Sunderland winger challenged to show his best form

The 25-year-old, who has been capped 12-times by his country with his last appearance coming against Italy in August, has failed to break into Roy Hodgson's latest squad for their crucial World Cup qualifiers against San Marino and Montenegro.

Johnson has only shown glimpses of the kind of form he produced during his spell at Manchester City and O'Neill has challenged the player to start demonstrating his ability.

O'Neill said: "Adam hasn't been picked for England because Roy Hodgson probably thought his performances for us haven't been consistent enough.

"For the most part as a team we've not been great, and at the moment Roy has other players to choose from. Does that mean Adam's international career is finished? Absolutely not.

"I think he'll have gained a greater appreciation of things this season and we know he's still a match-winner on his day.

"He has to show a consistency here. He's stepped in and fans might have felt he was going to win games single-handedly for us and that all would be rosy but I'm sorry it doesn't work like that. He needs to add a bit of consistency to his game."

t the start of the season, after the RVP transfer, I confidently claimed that Arsenal would finish above United. I now regret it immensely.

aniel Storey generally did very well, going against the City won it last year so they're bound to win it this time grain. As for John Nicholson, I wouldn't trust him to predict correctly what day of the week it will be tomorrow.
