Guthrie started as a reserve-team player with the Rams and during his six decades withthe club he has filled just about every position, including physiotherapist and trainer, and currently continues to work as the kit manager.

He has worked under more than a dozen Derby managers, including Nigel Clough's father Brian and Dave Mackay in the glory days of the 1970s when the Rams twice won the First Division title.

The 82-year-old, who was awarded a MBE in 2009 for services to football, remains involved despite recent illness.

Derby boss Clough said: "It is lovely that after all these years that he is recognised like this. That kind of longevity in football in very, very rare these days.

"All the ex-players love to see him, but I think the respect he has got from the current crop of players as well says an awful lot.

"It's about time he put his feet up and relaxed a little bit. He shouldn't be worrying too much about the club, even though he still does, he has done more than his fair share over the years."

Guthrie added: "Derby County has been my life for so long and it's unbelievable to have a stand named after me. It's a huge honour and I am very proud."

ah, Fergie is just having another pop at Rooney. He just wants to put him down whenever he gets a chance. Rooney is by far the best English player. Carrick is not far behind, mind. However, by elevating Carrick like that, Sir is having a dig at Wayne. Fergie is well-known for mind games like that. Good to see he's still feisty.
