Nigel Clough: Rued a case of deja vu

For Derby manager Clough, it was another frustrating day at home and he admitted: "It's a bit like deja vu at the moment. We are conceding poor goals, playing quite well but conceding poor goals. It's very, very simple, there's no complication to it.

"There was a 10 or 15 minute period after half-time when we didn't play well and we conceded two goals. We created situations throughout the game but unfortunately today we got into great positions and didn't deliver.

"The first goal was very similar to the one we conceded against Leicester and we spent 15 minutes yesterday working on exactly that free-kick so it's a little but frustrating to say the least.

"I thought we played well but I said to the lads that all the hard work, all the positive elements of the performance get lost in the result. But I do think someone is going to get a hiding, I'm not sure when it will be but I think someone at Pride Park will cop for it, I just hope it's sooner rather than later."

Reading manager Nigel Adkins believes the transfer window shutting has reopened the goal-scoring door for Pavel Pogrebnyak whose brace helped his side to a 3-1 win at Derby County.

The Russian striker found the net for the first time since January and although Will Hughes gave Derby hope, sub Nick Blackman secured Reading's 10th win in 12 games against Derby who have yet to record a home Sky Bet Championship victory this season.

Reading keeper Alex McCarthy kept the visitors in the game in the first half but Pogrebnyak pounced in the 47th minute after a free-kick was knocked down and the side-footed his second in the 62nd minute when Derby failed to clear a cross.

Hughes beat McCarthy with a curling shot in the 80th minute which was the first goal Reading had conceded in 365 minutes of Championship football but Blackman wrapped up the points in the fifth minute of stoppage time.

Adkins was delighted for Pogrebnyak and admitted speculation about his future had unsettled the centre-forward.

"Big Pav has come to the party for us. It's been frustrating for him but there's been the positive nature of the transfer window shutting and he's been working really hard and he's put in a really good performance.

"We are pleased for him because he's working really hard on the training ground but you are always measured by what you do on game day. It's been a challenge for him but once that transfer window shut it's been a fresh start for him and he's certainly contributed today.

"Every single day there was speculation about him leaving and that can unsettle anybody with which country are you going to but with that window shutting it's a positive situation and he's here and he's playing and I would like to think he's reaped the rewards today as the team has.

"It wasn't a case of him not working hard before but sometimes you need a break and sitting down and speaking to players goes a long, long way and we've done that to try and help them improve and understand their situations."
