George Thorne: West Brom midfielder is eager to prove his credentials

The 21-year-old ruptured his anterior cruciate ligament in the first half of the Baggies' 2-1 loss to Everton in January and has subsequently spent eight months on the sidelines.

Thorne is looking to go out on loan to aid his recovery, recognising that forcing his way back into Steve Clarke's starting line-up could be a challenging prospect.

The midfielder enjoyed a three-month loan spell with Peterborough in the Championship before returning to The Hawthorns where he sustained the injury.

"I had a spell last season where I got the chance to show what I can do," he told the Birmingham Mail.

"Hopefully, this season I can push on from there. I want to give the gaffer an idea of what I am as a player.

"It looks as though there are going to be some very good players on our bench so I know it's going to be difficult. In terms of competition for places it's always good to have quality players around.

"For me personally, if there's an opportunity for me to go and play some games, then we'll sit down and have a look at that.

"Hopefully, I'll get the chance to play some football and get back to where I was."
