Clarke: Saido snub no surprise

West Brom boss Steve Clarke insists it was no surprise to see Saido Berahino miss out on his first senior England call-up.

Berahino had been tipped for a place in Roy Hodgson's squad for the forthcoming friendlies against Chile and Germany as one of several fresh faces to be given a taste of senior international football.

Yet Clarke has spent much of this season playing down the ferver surrounding his Premier League rookie, who reportedly earns just £850 per week and is being linked with a number of top clubs.

And it was no surprise to the Scot when the England Under-21 star was not among the names announced by Hodgson on Thursday.

"If you heard what I said at weekend then obviously I wasn't expecting a call-up for Saido," he said. "As I said at the time he is in a good place.

"He has done well for us this year. He has done well for England U21's. They have got important qualifying games to play in the international break. I'm sure Saido will make a big contribution to that group."

put Ince in my fantasy football team, so it's no surprise at all really. I do that to players. Also responsible for De Jong and Upson being injured. Think I'll transfer in Di Maria just to ruin United....
