Wanderers remain in the relegation zone, but the Welshman is confident they can push on to get out of trouble.
"I'm pleased we got a point. It's St David's Day today so I had my daffodil on and I've got my Welsh socks on and I thought they might bring us a bit of luck," Saunders said.
"This could be a turning point for us. We scored in injury-time and missed a lot of chances.
"When they scored from a free-kick, which I didn't think was a free-kick, you're up against it because they're a good team. You're chasing the game.
"When Jack Robinson missed a chance I thought it wasn't going to be our night. But we kept going, the three subs came on and made an impact, we were getting to the ball first and I thought we might have got the winner with a couple of minutes to go."
Saunders conceded Wolves still faced a tough battle to avoid the drop, adding: "It's tough at the minute. We're not in a very good position, we're fighting and I believe we can get out of this situation.
"Hopefully that pushes us on now and on Tuesday night at Millwall we can take three points.
"At the end of the day, this was a good point. The players have showed some character, they've dug in, they've kept going till the final whistle and I thought we deserved to win."
