Wanderers climbed out of Championship relegation zone thanks to their thrilling 3-2 win at St Andrew's in a full-blooded encounter.

The visitors were three goals up at the interval thanks to a devastating 17-minute spell. Stephen Hunt opened the scoring after 20 minutes before Sylvan Ebanks-Blake headed home a quickfire second. Kevin Doyle was then brought down by Jack Butland in the area and Ebanks-Blake fired in the resulting penalty.

Wade Elliott gave Birmingham hope with an early second half strike and then set up a frantic finale when he converted his own rebound following a saved 95th-minute penalty.

But Wolves held on to secure the points and a relieved Saunders said: "It's a massive win. I've got to credit the players, they've had a torrid time the last couple of years and we're turning it around now.

"I just think it's absolutely ridiculous that we've had to play Saturday-Monday, it's just ridiculous. Some of the teams are playing Friday-Tuesday.

"I've got a couple of groin strains in there and Sylvan (Ebanks-Blake) might be out for the rest of the season, it's just fatigue. He's done his ankle ligaments, fingers crossed on that one.

"It's just tiredness, and it showed in the second half as we were out on our feet."

Asked whether he had spoken to the powers that be about Wolves' tough schedule over the Easter double-header, Saunders responded: "I haven't, no. Obviously there's something behind it, there's been live games on TV.

"I'm interested in the team, really. We weren't recovered. It's got to be looked at because it was a definite disadvantage for us today."

still can't see the Phil Jones thing that some people go on about. Whenever I watch him play it's a repeat of headless chicken meets a gurning Bambi on ice for 90 minutes.

P

robably the first list I've come across in a long time where I agree with a large majority of what was written. Can't agree with everything though, Zaba has had an awful season by his standards, I'd put Monreal (a player who I've never rated) up there, gotta give credit where it's due, he's really stepped up his game.
