Promotion glory for Cardiff, Bristol City drop into League One

Cardiff clinched promotion to the Premier League, while Bristol City were condemned to relegation to League One.

The Bluebirds only needed a point to confirm promotion and a goalless draw at home to Charlton was enough to start the party at the Cardiff City Stadium.

Bristol City saw their hopes of survival ended after a 1-0 defeat to Birmingham City at Ashton Gate.

Wade Elliott's first half goal proved to be enough to send the Robins to defeat and relegation from the Championship.

Wolves boosted their survival hopes with a priceless 1-0 win over automatic promotion hopefuls Hull City at Molineux.

Kevin Doyle's second-half goal was enough to lift Wolves out of the bottom three and dent Hull's promotion push.

Barnsley dropped into the relegation zone after being held to a 1-1 draw at home to Derby County.

Paul Coutts' last-gasp goal denied Barnsley all three points to cancel out Chris O'Grady's opener.

Watford missed the chance to close the gap on Hull after going down to a 1-0 defeat to Millwall.

Shaun Batt scored the winning goal late on to help Millwall bounce back from their FA Cup semi-final disappointment.

Blackburn moved further clear of trouble at the wrong end of the table with a 1-0 victory over fellow strugglers Huddersfield Town.

Jordan Rhodes came back to haunt his old club to score the only goal of the game eight minutes before the break.

Middlesbrough picked up a much-needed win over Nottingham Forest at the Riverside.

Mustapha Carayol scored the only goal of the game three minutes before the break to dent Forest's promotion hopes and boost Boro's slim chances of finishing in the top six.

Leicester moved back into the play-off spots with a thrilling 3-2 win over Bolton.

Bolton got off to a flying start when Daid Ngog scored from the penalty spot after just three minutes, but Leicester turned the game on its head with two goals in two minutes through Chris Wood's penalty (39) and Lloyd Dyer's strike (41).

Darren Pratley drew Bolton level on 71 minutes, but Jeffrey Schlupp netted the winner for Leicester eight minutes later to lift Leicester above Bolton into the top six.

Ipswich eased any relegation fears with a 3-0 win over promotion-chasing Crystal Palace.

Two goals from Frank Nouble (37, 45) and Aaron Cresswell (45) earned Ipswich all three points and stretched Palace's winless run to six games.

Brian McDermott made it two wins out of two as Leeds United boss after a 1-0 victory over Burnley at Elland Road.

Rudy Austin netted the only goal of the game just past the hour mark to keep alive Leeds' slim hopes of making the play-offs.

Peterborough picked up a precious point in their battle against relegation after earning a goalless draw with promotion hopefuls Brighton at London Road.

Sheffield Wednesday and Blackpool shared the spoils after a goalless draw at Bloomfield Road.
