Richard Stearman: Has been a key performer for Wolves this season

The defender appeared destined to be among those heading out of Molineux over the summer after ending last season on loan at Ipswich Town.

No deal was done with the Championship outfit, though, and Stearman has become a key performer for Wolves in their League One promotion push.

Jackett is now eager to see the 26-year-old rewarded with fresh terms, with his current deal set to expire at the end of the 2013/14 campaign.

He told the Express and Star: "He is in his final year and he's a player we're very interested in going forwards with in the future.

"He's had a good season so far and, as a club, we're aware of the situation and we've discussed it.

"The very fact he's been selected so many times this season so far means we're very interested in Richard going forwards.

"Most importantly, he's had a very good season for us and we're very pleased with him in a defensive unit that's looked very capable so far."

Wolves are also holding discussions with Stearman's centre-half partner Danny Batth, but no agreement has been reached as yet.

Jackett added on the 23-year-old academy graduate: "There haven't been any developments."

hould have stayed because we carried him for 6.5 years. And then he has a breakthrough season, and was gone soon after. MU fans, you would be as disgusted had C Ronaldo left in 2007 and not 2009.

ood grief. Someone guessed that the form English player at the moment might be in his national side with some other players? And that's espionage? Now if they discovered that Emile Heskey was going to be in the starting line up.... at right back.... THAT would be espionage. Give it a rest Roy.
