Harry Redknapp: Twelve-month spell in charge of Southampton ended in relegation

Redknapp is expecting a hot reception from Saints fans on Saturday - the day he turns 66 - when he goes back for the first time since an ill-fated spell in charge that ended in relegation.

His return to bitter rivals Portsmouth following Southampton's 2005 demise further incensed the St Mary's faithful but Redknapp insists a birthday bashing will be worth it if his rock-bottom team leaves with three points.

"It is my first trip back to Southampton. I will get a bit of grief I am sure," Redknapp said.

"No one was more upset than I was that Southampton got relegated. I gave everything I had.

"I don't think anyone could have had worse luck than we did at Southampton. It has been more difficult here if I am honest.

"I won't lose sleep over (any abuse). I will only do that if we get beat."

Rangers are seven points from safety but Redknapp is adamant he can mastermind a turnaround.

"It is getting more difficult (to turn it round)," he added. "We need back-to-back wins. That is something we need to do.

"But I have got to be upbeat. If I start saying we will get relegated we might as well go on our summer holidays."

QPR will be without striker Bobby Zamora (ankle) meaning Loic Remy will start his first game since January.

Redknapp bemoaned his side's bad luck with injuries, adding: "It has just been amazing. We bring in Remy and we can't get Bobby fit. We bring Remy in, he plays and Bobby is not fit. Then we get Bobby fit and then Remy picks up another injury, so that's how it goes."
