Tony Pulis: Knew Crystal Palace would be a tough proposition

Pulis started with former England team-mates Michael Owen and Peter Crouch in attack, but it was Championship side Palace who looked most likely to break the deadlock.

Wilfried Zaha was particularly impressive, although Yannick Bolasie, Andre Moritz and Jason Banton all also went close for the home side.

Pulis said: "When the draw was made we knew this would be a very tough fixture, especially away from home.

"We have just come off the back of four very tough Premier League games. This is a tough ground to come to and they are a top Championship side.

"They played really well. They have got some dangerous players in their team and we are pleased with the result.

"They are a good side. Ian Holloway's got them well-motivated and it was always going to be difficult."

Pulis said he had no intention of resting players and used all the resources at his disposal in an attempt to snatch a win.

He added: "I was bringing on players like Kenwyne Jones, Cameron Jerome and Charlie Adam to try to win the game.

"But both teams are in the draw, so that's something to look forward to."

till reckon Chelsea will go for Khedira as back up for Matic. I think it will turn out to be quite a Mourihno-y window: We'll see the squad players and youth in action pre-season, say things like well, we need not buy anybody and then the club will bid £60m for Pogba and send everybody on loan.

I

would love to be a fly on the wall at the meeting between Milner and Rodgers. I don't know if flies can count, but if they can then I would be counting the number of times Rodgers used the word outstanding in his attempts to get Milner to sign.

Reds and Arsenal chase Milner

W

ell, it wouldn't be a summer without Arsenal fans fretting over losing a key player, and United throwing their weight around and muscling in on transfer deals which are (apparently) near to completion. If we can't be entertained by the football on the pitch, let's enjoy the silly off-pitch soap opera of the transfer season. Hurrah!
