Cameron Jerome: The Stoke striker has welcomed Mark Hughes' new approach

The former Manchester City boss replaced long-serving manager Tony Pulis at the Britannia Stadium in May, having been dismissed from QPR six months earlier and he is already encouraging a more attacking style of play.

Jerome, signed by Pulis in 2011, has only made 15 starts so far in his two-year spell, and he says that he is relishing a fresh start under Hughes.

"The manager has different philosophies to the old manager. As a forward player, this is going to suit our game more than it would a defender's," he told The Sentinel.

"You are always going to have to work hard on a football pitch, but to hear the manager wants to play more football, and more attacking football, is better for the forwards.

"The old regime was all about defending and being tight and not conceding goals, this one seems to be about working hard with and without the ball, but also taking care of passes, getting the ball forward quickly, creating chances and giving the strikers proper service."

The 26-year old was also critical of Pulis' team selection, accusing him of sticking to his favourites, but Jerome says he is now hoping Hughes will offer him the chance to impress.

He said: "I am sure the manager will cast his eye over the boys in training for the first two or three weeks and decide where he may need to strengthen, or he may be happy with what he's got.

"With the old regime there was a guaranteed eleven who played and no matter how you trained, or if you came on and played well or did anything in the game, you were still never going to start.

"I think some of the lads who didn't play as much under the old regime won't be disheartened by the fact the new manager has come in.

"It's a new method and a new way of thinking. The place is vibrant and everyone seems to be happy with a spring in their step."

still can't see the Phil Jones thing that some people go on about. Whenever I watch him play it's a repeat of headless chicken meets a gurning Bambi on ice for 90 minutes.

P

robably the first list I've come across in a long time where I agree with a large majority of what was written. Can't agree with everything though, Zaba has had an awful season by his standards, I'd put Monreal (a player who I've never rated) up there, gotta give credit where it's due, he's really stepped up his game.
