Peter Crouch: Still holding out hope of an England recall

The Stoke City striker scored 22 goals for his country since making his debut against Colombia under Sven-Goran Eriksson in 2005. Fabio Capello handed him his last cap in a friendly against France in November 2010.

Crouch knows that his chances of adding to his 42 caps are slim, but that if he is to catch Hodgson's eye he must deliver at the Britannia.

"There have been a few squads since the new manager took over and I haven't been involved," he told Sky Sports News.

"It doesn't bother me too much. Obviously I have played a few times for my country and I absolutely loved it but first and foremost is to do well for your club.

"That's what I've got to do and if the call came then great. If not, so be it, it's certainly doesn't bother me too much."

Wayne Rooney is expected to be involved against Scotland in the friendly this week, and Crouch does not expect his light to be dimmed by doubts over his Manchester United future.

"For both sides it would be better if it was to be sorted out one way or another," Crouch added.

"Wayne needs to make a decision, and the club has to be firm on their stance - whatever happens, he is still one of the best strikers in the league.

"As soon as he arrived at United he hit the ground running and scored loads of goals - he is a very important player."
