Assaidi targeting more games

Oussama Assaidi believes he has proved his worth both to Stoke City and parent club Liverpool with his stunning winner against Chelsea.

The 25-year-old was benched for the visit of the Blues to the Britannia Stadium and given just six minutes at the end of the game with the scores at 2-2.

But he made an impression, firing a ferocious shot into the top corner to give Stoke their first league win over Chelsea in 38 years.

Assaidi joined Stoke from Liverpool in the summer on a season-long loan and has been a peripheral figure so far, starting only four games in all competitions; but that could change after his eye-catching strike.

"For the minutes I've been given I think I did well," he said. "I've scored two times and I haven't had so many games I think.

"This week I got 90 minutes two times and I'm very happy for this. I wanted to start again but the coach made another decision. I showed that I can create something for the team.

"The coach knows my quality I think because before I went on the pitch he told me, 'Go and win us the game'. He knows what I can do.

"I'm very happy for this confidence but I really want to start of course. I had to be patient until he gave me my opportunity, then I showed (what I can do)."

As well as being an excellent result for Stoke, the win was also an important one for Assaidi's parent club Liverpool, who went second in the Premier League table - above Chelsea on goal difference.

And while Assaidi is firmly focused on performing for Stoke, he hopes he will eventually be given a first-team chance at Anfield.

"I have two years more and we will see but I'm now at Stoke and I'll do my best," he said.

"(Rodgers) texts me sometimes and I speak sometimes with him. I think the games that I got at Liverpool was not so much but the games I got I did well. If he gives me a chance then maybe I can show (what I can do)."

I

may well get slated by other United fans for this, but out of the three contenders, I'd far prefer Liverpool to win the title. Yes some elements of their fanbase can be a bit OTT, yes they're our biggest rivals and yes it will make our poor season feel even more like the end of an era (Fergie's gone, Liverpool are back on top). However I just have to applaud Brendan Rodgers and the way he's turned Liverpool around in just a couple of seasons. It...

H

ooray! We are all excited now, we beat a very mediocre team! With all due respect to WHU supporters, not winning that game shouldn't even be a consideration. This is the problem, there is no winning mentality at the Emirates - we're all congratulating ourselves beating a team that we have a winning record against.

I

s this meant to be an aspiration for United supporters? Moyes mediocrity strikes again. I see the Bayern boys don't want to sign for him, and his reputation amongst the senior European coaches make other key signings unlikely.
