Hughes wants Everton revenge

Stoke manager Mark Hughes has urged his side to atone for their poor display at Goodison Park when Everton visit the Britannia Stadium on New Year's Day.

The in-form Toffees romped to a 4-0 victory over Stoke a month ago, and Hughes admitted the scoreline could have been worse for his team.

The Potters responded with two wins and two draws over their next four league games, although they have endured a tough festive schedule with heavy defeats to Newcastle and Tottenham.

Everton are flying high in fourth after winning five of their last seven league games, but Stoke have lost only once at home this season and Hughes is convinced they can maintain that record on Wednesday.

Hughes said: "Everton are doing very well and we've had recent experience of the quality that they're showing.

"Obviously we were well beaten at Goodison, 4-0, and it could have been more if we're honest. We've got a quick opportunity to turn that round.

"It was very difficult for us, Everton on the day were very good and deserved to win comprehensively, but this is our home game and our home form's good so we want to put in a better showing than we did at Goodison.

"We're enjoying playing at home at the moment, we're getting great support and we want to carry on our good run at the Britannia."

Glenn Whelan and Marc Wilson were both sent off in the first half of the 5-1 defeat at Newcastle and were suspended for the 3-0 loss at Tottenham, but they will return against Everton.

Hughes added: "That will help us. I think that certainly had an impact at Tottenham so we'll welcome back the likes of Glenn and Marc.

"Sometimes you have to give credit to the opposition. Certainly against Tottenham, they were the better side on the day.

"We had once again a number of decisions that we felt could have gone our way early in the game, which may have changed the game somewhat in our favour, but we didn't get them and Tottenham took the game away from us.

"The Newcastle game was a different case in point because we played really well up until the point when Glenn Whelan got sent off.

"In terms of confidence, we're not dented in any way, we're still very positive, we've just got to put those two games and the circumstances behind us and concentrate on Everton."

All Platini is doing is making billionaries pay measly fines, so he and his cronies can get rich. If a fool can pay 50 mil for David Luiz, he will happily pay some fine to UEFA. FFP has failed as for it to succeed UEFA had to take it...
