Tony Pulis: Applauded by both sets of fans

Pulis spent 10 years at Stoke across two spells, and was greeted with warm applause by both sets of supporters upon his arrival to the Selhurst Park dugout.

The Potters fans were also in full voice in their appreciation of Pulis, and the sentiment was not lost on their former manager.

"It was lovely that the supporters have been like that," Pulis told Sky Sports.

"It was a wonderful 10 years there. It's a lovely place, and I met a load of lovely people.

"My girls were there today, and they were Stoke fans for 10 years, so it was difficult for everyone.

"I thank them immensely for the reception. You don't get that very often in sport today."

Jason Puncheon's goal was enough for Pulis' men to get the win they needed to move out of the bottom three, and give their survival bid a real boost, and their new boss was delighted to emerge victorious.

"It was a tight game but I thought that we had the better chances," he said.

"When they put Shawcross up front, along with Crouch, and balls from back to front, anything can drop, but you just have to hope nothing does.

"They had some efforts from long range but I don't think they caused us many problems.

"Butland in the second half has made a succession of great saves, and we could have had another two or three.

"It was always going to be tight as we were three down on what we have had at the beginning of the month."

With the transfer window still open, Pulis also admitted that he intends to do some business.

He added: "We are looking to bring players in. The effort of our current players was fantastic, and is what we will need from now until the end of the season."

Palace midfielder Mile Jedinak revealed that the team was delighted for Puncheon who bounced back after his dreadful penalty miss against Tottenham.

"Punch is a guy with a strong character and I think he showed all that resilience and that thick skin today.

"He slotted the goal away perfectly could have perhaps had another couple - he'd be the first to admit that - but we're all absolutely delighted for him."

The result takes Palace to 16th in the table and Jedinak believes they can keep on grinding out results.

"It's going to be tight we know that but it's about how we react and we won't look at that very much to be honest with you," he added.

"It's one of those where you just have to get on with it and just keep on churning out and grinding out the performances."

t's why Mourinho is so successful. He gives players a specific, limited set of functions to perform. They are but a cog in a machine. Do no more, do no less. I assume he learnt it from LvG :)

really hope that someone in the mainstream media spots that the Bayern manager played for and managed Barcelona quite well, and thinks to mention it in the build up. That would be really interesting.
