Hughes: We deserved nothing

Frustrated Stoke manager Mark Hughes admitted his side deserved to come away with no reward from their clash with Crystal Palace, after losing 1-0.

Stoke are now without an away Premier League win in nine matches, with Hughes admitting concern at the Potters' record on the road.

"It was a low-quality game from both sides I would suggest, there wasn't a lot of guile and creativity shown," he told Sky Sports.

"We didn't have enough creativity in that final third to cause them enough problems of note.

"And that's where we are at the moment, we're okay at the back and into midfield, but then we get to a point where we find it difficult to create those clear-cut chances.

"So it's disappointing that we were unable to really build a performance that would enable us to take the game away from Palace.

"We've been talking about our away form and we really felt this was a game we could win, but we gave away that goal and after that it was always going to be difficult."

Pledging to sharpen up his side's defending, Hughes conceded Stoke had allowed Jason Puncheon far too easy a path to the winning finish.

"We're better than that, and we can't allow consecutive errors to happen in Premier League games, because inevitably they lead to goals," he said.

"That allowed the lad to shoot in the six-yard box, and they scored the winning goal.

"Those frailties in our defence need to be worked on and that's something we'll address."

terling needs to be told though that upon entering the Arsenal squad he will re-enact the final scene from Highlander where he will be thrown around a warehouse by cartoon dragons and then be a mere mortal that will only ever spend three to four weeks a season playing football and the rest on the physio's bed. There can be only one.....player available at The Emirates.

he game changed in our favour when Carrick came on. We were able to play further up the pitch due to having a player who can give and go with the ball and keep possession. Yet barkley made some runs and Townsend scored a good goal but carrick's inclusion and chiellini's withdrawal made the biggest difference to the flow of the game

o, you've not silenced anyone Andros, i'm afraid. We know you can score a great goal, and it's really handy to have your direct running and willingness to shoot on the bench. But until you can do the other things expected of a winger (beat the man, put a decent cross in, stay wide etc) then you can't expect more than a regular cameo. Wonderful goal though, what a hit! No wonder Buffon wanted the shirt.
