Jones: Draw was a fair result

Paul Anderson gave the visitors a 12th-minute lead at Hillsborough, only for Michail Antonio to get the Owls back on level terms two minutes later.

Ipswich's Cole Skuse and Wednesday's Jermaine Johnson both hit the woodwork with long-range efforts, but there were no further goals.

The result left Wednesday still waiting to record their first win of the season and the Tractor Boys without a victory on their travels.

"A point was a fair assessment, I think," Jones said. "They had the first half and we had the second. Probably it took us a long time to get going.

"Where the two boys went that should have been back, for their goal, I don't know. Well, I do know, but I don't know why they did it. They've got to explain that one to me. It's that one lapse that's cost us.

"We got back at that them straight away, which was good. We were in some really good positions but we just couldn't clear the first man, which is what you have to do.

"I just wish we could have put on a show for the 90 minutes like we did on Tuesday (in 1-1 draw at Brighton). We popped the ball about and there was no panic.

"The problem we do have is that we're trying to get four players fit through the game programme. We always knew that playing three games in a week for some of them was going to be a tall ask.

"If we had a fit, sharp Matty (Fryatt), then I think he scores just before half-time."

Ipswich manager Mick McCarthy was pleased to lead his side away from Yorkshire with a share of the spoils.

"I'm delighted with a point," he said. "I thought we were excellent in the first half and I think we had to show a different side to us in the second half in terms of defending and being resolute. I thought we were terrific and defended well.

"If we'd scored to make it 2-1 it would have silenced the crowd. Likewise, if they'd scored it would have probably ended 2-1 to them.

"I was delighted with the way we played in the first half and I think in the second half they improved and we had to defend.

"Following Tuesday's result (4-4 draw at Derby) - when we were 3-0 up and then conceded - it showed there was no hangover. It was a one-off, that.

"Everybody keeps asking us when we're going to win away from home. If we keep playing like that, we're going to win away from home. We haven't got the points we've deserved, but I'm not going to stop the way we're playing."
