Boyce: No Old Firm move

FIFA vice-president Jim Boyce believes that Cardiff's promotion to the Premier League will give Welsh football a boost, but has ruled out the possibility of Scottish clubs joining the Football League.

Cardiff celebrated promotion after last night's 0-0 draw with Charlton was enough to send them up to the top flight, where they will join fellow countrymen Swansea.

Boyce thinks that Wales will benefit from Cardiff's success but says that it is unlikely that a Scottish club would be allowed to make the switch to English football in the future.

"I think it's wonderful for those two cities that they are now in the Premier League," he told Sky Sports News.

"Both Cardiff and Swansea have been long time members of the football league, they've been long time members of the FA and it's a unique situation.

"Changes were made throughout FIFA to ensure that teams played in the countries where they were situated, this is an entirely different situation because permission was given that if someone was in that league prior to all these arrangements being put into place, they could continue.

"So I think it's fairly good for Welsh football that both Cardiff and Swansea are now in the Premier League."

Following Rangers' financial decline, speculation has increased about the possibility of them and Old Firm rivals Celtic becoming a part of the Football League, but Boyce was quick to dismiss that suggest.

"There's all these talks about Rangers entering England but quite honestly I do not see that happening, purely because FIFA are adamant now that clubs should play in the countries where they are situated," he continued.

"This is a completely one-off situation."

ou can't blame De Gea for wanting to leave, he has enough to do in front of goal as it is as well as taking on the role of Man Utd's version of Derek Acorah in trying to contact and organise a defence that isn't there.
