Oscar Cardozo: Expected to leave Benfica and has been linked to Cardiff

The Paraguay international scored 26 goals in all competitions last season for Benfica, who finished as runners-up to Porto in the Portuguese Primeira Liga.

However, it is thought that Benfica would be prepared to let him leave for the right price, and there is reportedly a lot of interest in the 30-year-old.

Cardiff City are among those in pursuit of Cardozo as they prepare for life in the Premier League, with manager Malky Mackay admitting earlier in the week that he would suit their style of play.

It would be a major coup for the Bluebirds to land a striker with Cardozo's record but they face competition from elsewhere, with Fenerbahce also rumoured to be keen.

The player's representative is in no doubt that his client will be on the move this summer and believes it should happen in the next fortnight before Benfica regroup for pre-season training.

"His transfer will certainly be finalised before July 17," Pedro Aldave said in O Jogo. "He will not return to Benfica for pre-season.

"We are very advanced but I prefer not to go into more details."

S

till reckon Chelsea will go for Khedira as back up for Matic. I think it will turn out to be quite a Mourihno-y window: We'll see the squad players and youth in action pre-season, say things like well, we need not buy anybody and then the club will bid £60m for Pogba and send everybody on loan.

I

would love to be a fly on the wall at the meeting between Milner and Rodgers. I don't know if flies can count, but if they can then I would be counting the number of times Rodgers used the word outstanding in his attempts to get Milner to sign.

Reds and Arsenal chase Milner

W

ell, it wouldn't be a summer without Arsenal fans fretting over losing a key player, and United throwing their weight around and muscling in on transfer deals which are (apparently) near to completion. If we can't be entertained by the football on the pitch, let's enjoy the silly off-pitch soap opera of the transfer season. Hurrah!
