The 27-year-old forward only joined the Posh in a permanent deal in the summer but was transfer listed this month due to a breach of club discipline.

Barnett has been the subject of interest from a host of Championship clubs including Birmingham, Barnsley and Brighton.

But relegation rivals Ipswich look to have won the race to sign the former Crawley man on a temporary deal.

Newly-appointed manager Mick McCarthy is looking to reshape the squad and is likely to have been sparked into action by Saturday's 6-0 mauling at the hands of Leicester.
