Talks are thought to be at an advanced stage between both parties and Berra is expected to undergo a medical at Portman Road over the weekend.

Scotland international Berra is available on a free transfer after leaving Wolves earlier this summer.

A host of clubs have been linked with moves for Berra, but Ipswich boss Mick McCarthy has moved quickly to lure the 28-year-old to Ipswich.

McCarthy is a big admirer of Berra having signed and worked with him during his time in charge at Wolves and sees him as a key addition to his plans for the new season.
