Luke Chambers: Happy at Ipswich

Luke Chambers: Happy at Ipswich

The 27-year-old has 18 months left on his current deal in Suffolk but would happily listen if a new contract was offered.

"I'm very, very much enjoying my football and living in the area," he told the Ipswich Star.

"If that opportunity arose then 100 per cent I'd jump at it because I'm really enjoying myself.

"If we continue to do well and perform the way we can, and the manager stays, I'd definitely want to stay."

Chambers, who has taken on the captain's armband in the absence of Carlos Edwards, is also enjoying his new role at right-back following Christophe Berra's arrival.

"After the gaffer came in last year I think, at centre-half, I was playing some of the best football of my career," he said.

"Ten clean sheets in 15 games was credit to all the lads involved and personally I thought I was playing some very good football.

"It's no secret that I feel that centre-back is my best position, but if the gaffer thinks me playing out on the right makes us a stronger team then I think people know me well enough by now to know that I'm here to be of benefit to the team.

"My personal preference will stay with me and I'll go out and do the job that I'm asked to do."

He admits he is happy to take on the captain's duties, adding: "When I've been captain we've not done too many pre-match huddles.

"Talk is cheap at that time of the day - everything is said that needs to be said. It shouldn't need my words to inspire someone that close to a game."

t's wrong to be making a joke out of Bender's name at the expense of gay people. It's the kind of childish, uncivilised thing that Football365 would deride and ridicule if it was another media outlet saying. Why is there a need for jokes like this? Does it make your writers feel like men? F365 might suggest that I 'lighten up', but it is genuinely traumatic for people who have been oppressed all their lives to be the butt of jokes, and to be told...

ou can't blame De Gea for wanting to leave, he has enough to do in front of goal as it is as well as taking on the role of Man Utd's version of Derek Acorah in trying to contact and organise a defence that isn't there.
