Russell Martin: Tough schedule partly to blame for poor run

The Canaries were beaten 2-1 at West Brom on the Saturday before Christmas, lost 1-0 at home to Chelsea on Boxing Day, suffered a 4-3 defeat in a thriller against Manchester City at Carrow Road on Saturday, and then lost 2-1 at West Ham on New Year's Day.

But Martin, who scored against the Hammers to make it three goals in two games, says performances remain good and that Norwich's earlier 10-game unbeaten run means there is no cause for alarm.

"Confidence is fine, there is no problem in the dressing room," said the Scotland international. "I don't think it is an issue because of the way we have played against two of the best teams in the country, if not Europe.

"The performances were there, and it is really only in the first half against West Ham that we have not produced what we are capable of.

"The longer it goes on, you want a result, but if we continue to put the performances in then we will be all right.

"There has been a tough schedule over Christmas - it does not come tougher than Manchester City and Chelsea at home, West Brom and West Ham away, which are tough games.

"Fortunately, we had a great run just before, and now it is up to us to start getting results again."

Norwich are still seven points clear of the drop zone and Martin added: "The 10-game run has given us a little cushion over the other teams so, as long as we pick up a few wins, and keep away from them, then that's fine, because other teams need to capitalise and winning games in this league is tough, as QPR and Reading are finding.

"We have done a lot of the hard work, now we just need to get a few more wins to get over that line and then we will be comfortable."

was there, it was embarrassing - the team looked totally unbalanced from the off, the defence was woeful and when Mikel came off injured it got even worse with nobody in front of them. Up front on several occasions we had opportunities and nobody would shoot - it was a complete farse! On the back of Salah's performance I'm glad there is talk of getting shot...

reat to see Tommy Rosicky getting some love. A wonderful player. Such a pity we lost so long to injury. I was so excited when we signed him, this resurgence only makes the absences seem more of a lost opportunity.
