Hughton bemoans 'poor goals'

Norwich City boss Chris Hughton was disappointed to see 'poor goals' leave him empty-handed after a home date with Aston Villa.

The Canaries headed into the weekend knowing that it was imperative to take something from a meeting with a fellow Premier League struggler.

In the end, they came up short and are now just three points clear of the drop zone with two games to play - and with 18th-placed Wigan Athletic holding a game in hand on all of those above them.

Hughton was disappointed to see his side suffer a fourth setback in six outings on Saturday, but concedes that they only have themselves to blame for their struggles.

He told Sky Sports: "It's disappointing and frustrating because it's not a game that we should have lost, it's not a game that we deserved to lose.

"I thought we were very good in that first-half period, but you know what you are getting with Villa - they have got a lot of pace in their attacks, in their counter.

"We have conceded two poor goals today. It's very difficult when you do that, it means you have got to score three goals at home.

"I thought the performance was good, we didn't have the cutting edge when we needed to. At 1-1 we are back in the game, the ascendancy is with us and we have to make sure at that stage that you don't lose the game."

He added on a tie which saw Gabriel Agbonlahor net twice either side of a successful spot-kick from Grant Holt: "I think we have conceded poor goals. They have caught us on the counter-attack and they have got pace in Agbonlahor.

"With the type of pace that he has got, if you give him an opportunity in those positions, to fire at our goal, there is every chance that he's going to hit the target, and he has done on a couple of occasions."

ll very well selling all midfield and strikers but unless we bring anyone in that is better than what we had then it will be a terrible transfer window in my view. Sorted out the defense but our midfield and striker options look very light.

ove it when Jose accuses others of being defensive, cynical and playing to win. If I was Wenger, I'd get that quote laminated and framed - surely the biggest compliment he's ever received from Mourinho. You've got him riled Arsene - you're relevant again!

t's wrong to be making a joke out of Bender's name at the expense of gay people. It's the kind of childish, uncivilised thing that Football365 would deride and ridicule if it was another media outlet saying. Why is there a need for jokes like this? Does it make your writers feel like men? F365 might suggest that I 'lighten up', but it is genuinely traumatic for people who have been oppressed all their lives to be the butt of jokes, and to be told...
