Missing the Old Firm

Former Celtic striker Chris Sutton told Soccer AM that he misses the classic Glasgow grudge match.

Last Updated: 06/10/13 at 11:28 Post Comment

Sutton played for the Hoops for six seasons from 2000 and racked up an impressive 63 goals, including a brace in his first Old Firm derby; making him an instant Celtic hero.

Some of the green and white half of Glasgow were delighted when fierce rivals Rangers went in to administration in 2012 and ended up playing in the Scottish Third division, but Sutton thinks that even the biggest Celtic fans will be missing the Old Firm games.

"I think it's sad for the Scottish game that Rangers aren't in the top flight. You get your die-hard Celtic fans who are happy Rangers aren't there, but even deep down those fans will miss the old firm games and I certainly do."

The Special One

Sutton reached the UEFA Cup final with Celtic in 2003 where he came up against then Porto manager Jose Mourinho who came out victorious, but he thinks The Special One has a tougher task with his return to managing Chelsea.

"I think any player would like to play under Jose Mourinho. I played against him in the UEFA final when he was at Porto and I was with Celtic. He's been phenomenal as a manager, but he's come in this season and it looks a bit more a tricky job for him."

Canaries

The striker started his career at Norwich City making 103 appearances for the club. The Canaries have failed to hit the ground running in the Premier League this season, despite some big money summer signings, but Sutton thinks they'll get their act together soon.

"I think Ricky van Wolfswinkel is a good signing. I think Norwich's problem last season was scoring goals; they've got him and Gary Hooper in now and they just need to try and create more chances. They had a good win against Stoke and I think that will have given the team a lift and I think they'll do ok."

ell that really inspires me with confidence. No point in training, deciding on a coherent formation, or playing players in their best positions, let's just hope we get lucky.

alcao really needs to shine now. Apparently according to the stats, he scores more when played up front alone. I wonder if Van Gaal will actually apply a formation to get the best out of him though.
