Neil Adams: Keeping a close eye on those at his disposal

Having initially inherited the managerial reins on a caretaker basis, Adams is looking to use pre-season to put his own stamp on things.

That includes making decisions on the futures of those who have underachieved or fallen out of favour.

Sebastien Bassong and Anthony Pilkington saw limited game time towards the end of last season, while Wes Hoolahan has expressed a desire to move on in the past.

Doubts also linger over Rick van Wolfswinkel, with the Holland international having struggled throughout his debut campaign in English football.

Adams, though, is prepared to give everybody an opportunity to prove their worth and has made all of those in his squad aware that no exit decisions have been taken.

He said in the Pink Un: “I did that with all of them at the end of last season when I didn’t know if I was going to get the permanent position or not. I felt even then you had to have a contingency plan.

“The players have let me know whether they want to be here or not, and that will remain confidential, but in terms of a clean slate, everyone has an opportunity to impress.

“I wouldn’t want to be patronising and say I haven’t formed opinions on players. I saw them last season, both on and off the pitch, and that comes into my considerations but I am not foolish enough to think that if there is one player who perhaps I thought might not be in my plans goes out and is the best lad we’ve got in that position then he will find himself in the team.

“We have got pre-season and five or six weeks now to have a really good look. The opportunity is there now for all of them.”

t's a bloody good goal, though. Sh!t, the kid's gonna be the worlds best before we know it, isn't he? He's got the touch of genius in him. Like Neymar, but with muscles and stuff. He's doing a Ronaldo as we watch. He's bulked up to be able to ride the tackles, but he's improved technically as well. His touch is sublime. Bugger.
