Leon Clarke: Causing a stir

A livid Pressley pulled no punches and slammed the Iron's behaviour as "unacceptable" after they posted a story on their official club website on Thursday morning in which Laws spoke openly about the possibilities of a move for Clarke, who spent three months on loan at Glanford Park last term.

Amid the article, Laws stated: "He's available because of Coventry's current financial situation, but he's also on a very high wage as well which we wouldn't be prepared to pay. He'll have a lot of clubs chasing after him that will be prepared to pay."

But Pressley is adamant Clarke is not available for transfer and Coventry have contacted Scunthorpe to ensure the story was removed.

"I just cannot accept it," Pressley said.

"Firstly it is inaccurate, in respect that Leon Clarke is available due to the financial predicament at the football club - nothing could be further from the truth.

"Secondly, for them to actually put it as a leading story on their website talking about somebody else's player who is under contract is inexcusable.

"I cannot understand how any club can do that? Also, to comment on the player... I've watched the interview and I know Brian Laws was prompted to answer the question, but he shouldn't be talking about any player who is contracted to another club and certainly shouldn't be speculating about his availability.

"Leon Clarke is a player here who I demonstrated last week by giving him the captaincy how important he is to this football club and how much we want him to be here.

"That type of speculation infuriates me as it can destabilise the player - all these things are untrue. I'm disgusted at Scunthorpe carrying out that type of behaviour because it's something I wouldn't expect of our own football club."

till reckon Chelsea will go for Khedira as back up for Matic. I think it will turn out to be quite a Mourihno-y window: We'll see the squad players and youth in action pre-season, say things like well, we need not buy anybody and then the club will bid £60m for Pogba and send everybody on loan.

would love to be a fly on the wall at the meeting between Milner and Rodgers. I don't know if flies can count, but if they can then I would be counting the number of times Rodgers used the word outstanding in his attempts to get Milner to sign.

Reds and Arsenal chase Milner

ell, it wouldn't be a summer without Arsenal fans fretting over losing a key player, and United throwing their weight around and muscling in on transfer deals which are (apparently) near to completion. If we can't be entertained by the football on the pitch, let's enjoy the silly off-pitch soap opera of the transfer season. Hurrah!
