Nicolas Anelka: Shanghai Shenhua striker has been linked with a move to QPR

The former Chelsea forward was reported to be on the radar of the Loftus Road club as they look to bolster their squad in January to aid their battle against relegation.

Anelka, who joined Shanghai Shenhua in China during the last winter window, has a wealth of Premier League experience after stints with Arsenal, Liverpool, Manchester City and Bolton.

But Redknapp was coy when questioned about the France forward, although he did admit that Anelka is likely to be in demand, should he be on the move for the latest time in his nomadic career.

"I don't know what the situation is with him," he said. "If he is available he is a player who I think would be of interest to people."

Former Spurs boss Redknapp will next week meet with QPR chairman Tony Fernandes for the first time since he replaced Mark Hughes.

Having ploughed so much money in to the club since he bought it, Redknapp acknowledges Fernandes may not be keen to fund a lavish spending spree in January, and may instead look to the loan market for solutions to his problems.

"We will sit down and the owners will have a look at the situation," Redknapp said.

"Maybe we won't have to spend any money. Maybe we can pick up a couple of loans. It's a case of knowing who is around, knowing who is available and who can do a job for you."
