Rio Ferdinand: Hoping to land a new contract at Manchester United

Speculation in England has suggested that Ferdinand was sounded out about the possibility of a summer switch some months back.

The vastly-experienced centre-half is due to be out of contract at Old Trafford at the end of the season and has been linked with moves to various clubs.

He has, however, expressed a desire to stay on at United after helping them to the 2012/13 Premier League title, and Flamengo insist they have no intention of making a move.

Director of football Paulo Pelaipe told Lancenet: "I haven't talked to anybody about it, and the board haven't told me anything on the subject."

Vice-president Wallim Vasconcellos told Radio Tupi: "There is nothing about Rio Ferdinand."

Vasconcellos has also sought to distance Flamengo from rumours claiming that they are preparing a bid to bring Brazil international Cesar back to his homeland - on the back of QPR's relegation out of the Premier League.

He added: "Julio Cesar is a great goalkeeper and could play for any team, but he is not one of our concerns right now."

alcao really needs to shine now. Apparently according to the stats, he scores more when played up front alone. I wonder if Van Gaal will actually apply a formation to get the best out of him though.
