Samba: Spend sale fee wisely

Christopher Samba hopes QPR use his transfer fee for "smart recruitment" and strengthen their Championship challenge.

Christopher Samba: Has returned to Anzhi Makhachkala

The 29-year-old has returned to Russia to sign once again for Anzhi Makhachkala, with Rangers recouping almost all the £12.5million fee they spent on him in January.

With such a considerable boost to Harry Redknapp's transfer coffers, and with the parachute payments from the Premier League, Samba hopes his old club can spend wisely and return to the top flight at the first attempt.

"Rangers already have a great squad," said Samba. "But it's true that with the money they've got, I hope they do some smart recruitment to get the players they need to face the battle for promotion."

Tribute to Tony

Samba has paid tribute to QPR chairman Tony Fernandes, who was keen to retain the giant defender's services at Loftus Road.

"Tony Fernandes is a great man," Samba added to the Sunday Mirror. "He wanted to keep me and help him back up, but I believe the offer from Russia was too good to let it pass by.

"It was a big decision and not one that was easy to make. I wanted to help the club to get straight back into the Premier League, where they should be.

"I was not planning to go anywhere. I wanted to reward the club for their support. I was getting mentally prepared for the battle in the Championship."

Samba was plagued by knee problems during his six-month spell in west London, meaning he only made 10 starts in the Premier League, the last being a 2-0 home defeat by Stoke City on April 20th.

"I wasn't 100 per cent fit," said the former Blackburn Rovers man, "So, I couldn't give my best to the club and the fans who deserved better. They are great fans and then stood by the team despite the results."

terling needs to be told though that upon entering the Arsenal squad he will re-enact the final scene from Highlander where he will be thrown around a warehouse by cartoon dragons and then be a mere mortal that will only ever spend three to four weeks a season playing football and the rest on the physio's bed. There can be only one.....player available at The Emirates.

he game changed in our favour when Carrick came on. We were able to play further up the pitch due to having a player who can give and go with the ball and keep possession. Yet barkley made some runs and Townsend scored a good goal but carrick's inclusion and chiellini's withdrawal made the biggest difference to the flow of the game

o, you've not silenced anyone Andros, i'm afraid. We know you can score a great goal, and it's really handy to have your direct running and willingness to shoot on the bench. But until you can do the other things expected of a winger (beat the man, put a decent cross in, stay wide etc) then you can't expect more than a regular cameo. Wonderful goal though, what a hit! No wonder Buffon wanted the shirt.
