Cesar eyes World Cup spot

Julio Cesar says he is grateful for the backing of Brazil boss Luiz Felipe Scolari but knows he needs to keep performing for QPR if he is to secure his place at the World Cup.

Julio Cesar: Is hoping his performances for QPR will ensure he represents Brazil

Scolari has previously insisted that the 34-year-old will be included in his World Cup squad even if he struggles for regular first-team action this season.

Cesar's move to Loftus Road from Inter Milan last summer has not worked as he had hoped, with the London club suffering relegation to the Championship last term.

The former Flamengo goalkeeper was hopeful of securing a transfer to a top-flight side over the summer but no move materialised and to make things worse he has begun the campaign on the bench behind Robert Green.

Cesar has described his predicament at QPR as "confusing" but is encouraged by the backing given to him by his national boss.

He hopes to repay him by forcing his way back into the QPR side and proving he is worthy of a spot at next year's football summer showpiece.

"Look, that [Scolari's comments] surprised me too," he told Sportv. "It's another situation where Scolari is protecting me.

"I have to keep my consistency at QPR, and after the confusing transfer situation, I have to play well in the next eight months and be among the players called up [for the World Cup]."

PSG were probably not interested and he is stuck with no cake and no vacation. @Jay_D> Surely you jest about FFP being real, right? All Platini is doing is making billionaries pay measly fines, so he and his cronies can get rich. If a fool can pay 50 mil for David Luiz, he will happily pay some fine to UEFA. FFP has failed as for it to succeed UEFA had to take it...
