Pearson himself, as well as 11 senior players are currently on deals which are due to expire at the end of the season, with those out of contract allowed to speak to other clubs from January onwards.

Wes Morgan, Kasper Schmeichel, David Nugent and Lloyd Dyer are among the first-team players who could be without a club, but Pearson is adamant on making sure that on-field events do not become overshadowed.

"I don't want to get into discussions about individuals' contracts - it's counter-productive," he told the Leicester Mercury.

"I don't intend to talk publicly about people's situations; I have never done it in the past and don't intend to start now.

"It's important that the players keep their minds on the job in hand and it's as simple as that.

"We want to try to keep our best players.

"We have worked hard to construct what I think is a competitive squad and we will fight very hard to keep the squad together and improve it."

Pearson has guided Leicester to their best start to a season for 11 years and he says he wants that to take precedence over contract talks with his side sitting second in the Championship.

"We are doing okay so far because the players are performing very, very well," he said.

"I don't see any mileage in talking about anything other than that."

t's why Mourinho is so successful. He gives players a specific, limited set of functions to perform. They are but a cog in a machine. Do no more, do no less. I assume he learnt it from LvG :)

really hope that someone in the mainstream media spots that the Bayern manager played for and managed Barcelona quite well, and thinks to mention it in the build up. That would be really interesting.
