It proved to be a productive end to the calendar year for McClaren, with his Rams taking 19 points from a possible 21 on offer and outscoring their opponents by a huge 18-6 margin.

Former Charlton manager Alan Curbishley, who chairs the Sky Bet Manager of the Month judging panel, said: "Steve McClaren has enjoyed a fantastic return to Derby County where his side's outstanding form has put them in contention for automatic promotion. To secure 19 points in one month is an extremely notable feat."

Leicester midfielder Drinkwater saw his efforts recognised as Sky Bet Championship Player of the Month, with a collection of high-energy performances - and a spectacular goal against Bolton Wanderers - helping to drive the promotion-chasing Foxes forward.

Brentford sit proudly atop of the Sky Bet League One standings and the Bees have been able to secure a notable double - with boss Mark Warburton landing the manager gong and winger Sam Saunders the player prize.

Warburton, who inherited the reins at Griffin Park from Uwe Rosler, could not have made a better start to his tenure - overseeing four wins from four - and Saunders was to prove a key performer as he provided two assists and three goals - including a stunning free-kick against Swindon Town.

Curbishley has been impressed by the impact of Warburton at Griffin Park.

"Mark Warburton has made an immediate impact on his managerial career by leading Brentford to the top of Sky Bet League 1," said Curbishley.

"Four wins from four in December ensure The Bees are perfectly placed to start the new year."

Moving down into League Two, and Cheltenham's Mark Yates takes the managerial plaudits - with the Robins having collected 10 points from their five fixtures in December.

Curbishley said of the award to Yates: "Their form has moved them up the Sky Bet League 2 table and they are showing the sort of form we saw last season."

The player award went to Scunthorpe United's ever-green frontman Deon Burton, with the 37-year-old showing no signs of slowing down as he netted four times in as many outings.

think that puts all doubts over Benteke's quality to bed. Can he do it after receiving the ball to feet, in the box, totally unmarked, on a warm, sunny afternoon in Swindon? Oh yes he can! This year is definitely Liverpool's year. YNWA.

ll very well selling all midfield and strikers but unless we bring anyone in that is better than what we had then it will be a terrible transfer window in my view. Sorted out the defense but our midfield and striker options look very light.

ove it when Jose accuses others of being defensive, cynical and playing to win. If I was Wenger, I'd get that quote laminated and framed - surely the biggest compliment he's ever received from Mourinho. You've got him riled Arsene - you're relevant again!
