Michael Appleton: In contention for Barnsley job

Michael Appleton: In contention for Barnsley job

Appleton has been out of work since leaving Championship Blackburn Rovers earlier this year, but he has since been linked with a host of roles.

He is reportedly in contention at his former club Portsmouth, but a move into the Championship with Barnsley would be a major draw.

Appleton is now believed to be very high up on the Oakwell's club wanted list and their current chief executive Ben Mansford knows him well as he used to represent him.

Former Barnsley boss Danny Wilson has also been linked whilst current caretaker Micky Mellon is also believed to be in contention.
