James Chester: Eyeing promotion

The 24-year-old centre-back ended an injury-hit spell at Old Trafford to join the Tigers in 2011 armed with a desire to return to the elite, and he stands just 90 minutes away from doing just that.

Hull are one point clear of third-placed Watford and know victory against Cardiff at the KC Stadium would guarantee their promotion.

Chester, like team-mates David Meyler, Robbie Brady and Corry Evans, dropped down a division but thinks his decision will be vindicated should Steve Bruce's men secure promotion.

"It would be massive for all of us," he said.

"There's a few of us who have come down from big clubs in the Premier League and never got a chance to play at that level and we're all eager to show that we're good enough to play there.

"There'll be no better way to reach the top than get promoted with Hull."

Chester knows that only a select few make the grade at Old Trafford but he believes his time in Manchester helped mould him into the player he is today.

"I owe Man United a lot," he added. "I was there from eight or nine years old and I learned an awful lot while I was there. I saw the joys of playing top-flight football, the facilities and things like that.

"Coming down - it's given me an even bigger hunger to get back to things like that."

PSG were probably not interested and he is stuck with no cake and no vacation. @Jay_D> Surely you jest about FFP being real, right? All Platini is doing is making billionaries pay measly fines, so he and his cronies can get rich. If a fool can pay 50 mil for David Luiz, he will happily pay some fine to UEFA. FFP has failed as for it to succeed UEFA had to take it...
