Steve Bruce: Relishing trip to Chelsea

The newly-promoted Tigers could hardly have been given a tougher start to their season - a trip to take on Jose Mourinho's Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.

Bruce is not fazed, insisting such daunting tasks are the reason every club wants to be in the top-flight - the chance to have a crack at the giants of English football.

And Bruce says the squad could not be more excited: "One of my coaching staff said to me there's been a real crackle around the place all week.

"It's been a long pre-season and I'm delighted it's out of the road. I hated pre-season as a player and I hate it even more as a manager.

"The real ball comes out now and you'll be able to smell the hot dogs on Sunday, as one of my old coaches used to say.

"We know what we are up against and we couldn't have wished for a more difficult game, but that's why we're in the Premier League. It's for days like this - to play at Chelsea, Manchester City, Arsenal. It'll be huge, it's been sold out for weeks and the return of Jose adds a bit to it.

"The important thing is we enjoy the challenge ahead. The one thing we won't be is petrified of it. It's a big occasion and there's more excitement around the place than trepidation.

"You can quite easily go two months without a victory in this league," he added.

"You can have six or eight games where you find it very difficult and I hope the experience I have had over the last 10 or 11 years will stand us in good stead.

"Make no mistake, there will be some disappointing Saturday evenings this season but I think we need to win 10 games.

"That has got to be our aim, win 10 games and maybe that is enough to keep us up because you are going to get five or six draws along the way. It sounds easy but as we know it's very difficult."

t's why Mourinho is so successful. He gives players a specific, limited set of functions to perform. They are but a cog in a machine. Do no more, do no less. I assume he learnt it from LvG :)

really hope that someone in the mainstream media spots that the Bayern manager played for and managed Barcelona quite well, and thinks to mention it in the build up. That would be really interesting.
