City's match against Norwich at the KC Stadium kicks off at exactly the same time that Hull FC take on Wigan Warriors at Wembley.

The club are bracing themselves for the sight of some empty seats - the match is still not sold out and a number of the 17,000 season ticket holders are expected to be at Wembley instead.

Hull had asked Norwich if they were prepared to play the match 24 hours later but the Canaries refused as they had already booked 25 coaches to lay on for free travel for their fans.

Bruce said: "I am sure there are people caught between supporting the rugby team and supporting the football team.

"People will still come out and support us though, of course they will, but we are mindful that half the city will be going down to Wembley for the rugby and we wish them the best of luck.

"For the city itself, people here find it tough. It's a real tough working class city and people find it hard to make a trip to Wembley or buy a ticket to a Premier League game so they deserve a bit of success."

Hull have been linked with moves for Hamburg midfielder Tomas Rincon, Sunderland's David Vaughan and Ezequiel Schelotto from Inter Milan, but Bruce said it was unlikely he would make any more forays into the transfer market during this window.

"I have been linked with 117 players and signed six," he said.

"I have not made any more bids or been in contact with anybody.

"I won't say never but I think it is highly unlikely we will be doing anything more."

Bruce is expected to give a first start to record signing Tom Huddlestone alongside his ex-Tottenham team-mate Jake Livermore, who has joined on loan from Spurs, against Norwich.

The pair came off the bench during the 2-0 defeat at Chelsea last weekend and had an immediate positive impact, even if was just in terms of stemming the flow of attacks from Jose Mourinho's side.

"Their experience helped us against Chelsea last weekend so they will be very much in my mind to start," said Bruce.
