David Meyler: Praised for not reacting to Alan Pardew

Pardew has been charged with improper conduct by the Football Association after appearing to headbutt Hull City midfielder Meyler during a touchline altercation in the second half of Newcastle's 4-1 win at the KC Stadium.

The Newcastle manager was fined £100,000 by his club on Saturday night, just hours after the incident, but no criminal proceedings will take place, no complaint having been received from Meyler or Hull.

Pardew, who has been widely condemned for his behaviour, offered an immediate apology after the incident, but he is still expected to be hit with a heavy sanction by the FA with a possible stadium ban mooted.

Meyler, who is on international duty with the Republic of Ireland ahead of Wednesday's friendly with Serbia, has been praised by Keane for not lashing out at Pardew following the clash.

"He did exactly what you would expect him to do," said Keane.

"He did the right thing. He's a [County] Cork lad so he doesn't go down easily.

"There's been no surprise for me with Meyler. I know the type of character he is."

Asked whether he would have reacted in the same way, Keane smiled as he replied: "I'm not sure I would have got involved in anything like that."

hould have stayed because we carried him for 6.5 years. And then he has a breakthrough season, and was gone soon after. MU fans, you would be as disgusted had C Ronaldo left in 2007 and not 2009.

ood grief. Someone guessed that the form English player at the moment might be in his national side with some other players? And that's espionage? Now if they discovered that Emile Heskey was going to be in the starting line up.... at right back.... THAT would be espionage. Give it a rest Roy.
