Luke Varney's early header at Bolton secured Leeds their second away win of the season and was enough to move them into the top six at the weekend.

"We deserved to win the game," said McDermott. "We worked so hard at both ends. People have talked about goals and chances, and we'd talked about what we need to do.

"We created chances on Saturday. I've no problem with balls over the bar or wide because we created.

"It could have been two or three-nil but we'll settle for the one. The clean sheet was important, because if you get clean sheets you win games.

"We're hard to beat at the moment. That's where you start. We're working on the other side as well. We scored a good goal early on, but I felt we were in control and it was the right result."

Leeds will look to extend their unbeaten away record so far this season at Reading on Wednesday.
